EXPERIENCE the HIStory, tradition and culture on your holiday in the salzkammergut lake district

The history of the Salzkammergut Lake District

Lake Fuschl lies nestled in the picturesque Salzkammergut Lake District in the Austrian foothills of the Alps. The name, and the region itself are closely associated with salt or "Salz". Since the late Iron Age salt has been mined in the area - a very valuable commodity which has lead to many power struggles over the years. In particular the Habsburg dynasty played a major role in the history of the Salzkammergut region. It was under their rule in 1524, that the first reference to the region as „cammergut des Saltzs“ was made.

Art, culture and tradition

In the Salzkammergut Lake District old culture meets new in harmony, giving the region a unique and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors to the region  are introduced to the history of the Hallstattzeit, discover fascinating traces of the k. and k. monarchy and soak up the historical atmosphere.
