    Salzburg Festival

On  August 22nd 1920 Hugo von Hofmannsthal's 'Jedermann'  was performed for the first time in front of Salzburg's cathedral. Since then the Salzburg Festival has developed and grown, yet Jedermann or "Everyman" remains the highlight of the festival, which takes place every year from the end of July to the end of  August. During the course of the festival over 170 concerts, operetta's, operas and music events are enjoyed by over 220,000 enthusiastic visitors. Besides the classic operas and plays, contemporary works and important works from the last Century are also presented.
