Salzburg Festival
On August 22nd 1920 the famous call “Jedermann” echoed across the Cathedral Square for the very first time. Hugo Hofmannsthal’s musical account of a bon vivant’s struggle to outsmart the Grimm Reaper and avoid death remains the highlight of the Festival which hosts 170 classic concerts, plays and operas in the last week of July and the beginning of August each year. This internationally acclaimed festival stages classical and contemporary works of the very highest quality and attracts 220,000 visitors each year.
